i have the logitech s220 sound system. its a very basic 2.1 low watt (17 watt rms) system. and i have these bookshelf speakers (2 of them, 20watts rms each i think) and i just ordered a T amp so i can connect these bookshelf speakers in my computer (the amp provides me with 25WX2+45WX1 RMS). now i have two questions:
1. can i have both systems (the bookshelf speakers and the logitech s220) connected to my pc and have sound from both in the same time? if you need to know my sound card its the onboard sound card of the asus maximus vii ranger motherboard.
2. can i somehow get virtual or real 5.1 audio or i am stick with 2.1?

Solution
if you use a splitter you are limited to ONLY 2.0/2.1 meaning left sound will come out of one speaker on the new set and one on the old set. likewise with the right sides. the subwoofer will trigger as well normally.

if you want 4.0/4.1 you can NOT use a splitter and would hook it up to the front left/front right jack (which set you want to act as fronts) and hook the other set up to the rear left/rear right jack (the set you want to act as rears). keep in mind the subwoofer will be a bit wonky.

realtek should have speaker fill option if you have that software built in. this should push to all speakers. if you have a different software (such as asus's special software) then it may be absent.

i have speakers and a sound bar connected at the same time and get sound from both--though its still only stereo

easiest way i found to do it

connect speakers to normal green input

connect sound bar to front headphone jack

in realtek audio manager disable front jack auto detection

this stops it thinking you plugged in headphones

works perfectly

or put a splitter on the rear 3.5mm front output. that gives you stereo.

it may be possible to set your system up as quadraphonic (4.0) and get your system to work fair like that but setting it so they all play at once (external stereo mode or speaker fill its often called) may not work right on asus soundcards (it might not be in your settings). virtual surround might be though which might (you need to test) push 2.0 sounds through your 4.0

you can not get 5.1 with 4 speakers. you can get a variation of 4.0/4.1 quadraphonic (though the subwoofer will not always trigger at all sounds due to your configuration.)

ok thanks. i will probably use a splitter on the rear output.
about the 4.0/4.1 quadraphonic audio, should i use a specific program to make it 4.0 from stereo or just the realtek audio manager?
