Keyboard froze/top row only

Hi people,

Any idea why? I was working and noticed it had simply stopped working -- tho I can still get ~~~ and ++++ but nothing else. I have a macbook pro. Thank you very much for your help>>>>

Did you spill on it?
Use the onscreen keyboard to test which keys are active, they will turn green when pressed.
Also try a USB keyboard to see if that works properly, this will confirm it is the onboard keyboard.
Might be time for a new keyboard.

No no never spilled anything. How can I get a new keyboard -- I don't understand ? I have a macbook pro -- no separate keyboard. You know I was fiddling around with DICTATION in mail when this happened. Maybe some connection? I am presently using a separate keyboard and that is working fine. Thank your your help. I appreciate it.

Replacing the keyboard is difficult on a MacBook pro but not impossible, I have done many. Let me see what I can find out about dictation possibly affecting the keyboard.

You could try creating a new user account and logging in as that. This would eliminate some setting doing this.
