I have a HP pavillion G4 2013 laptop with AMD A4 3330MX processor. It came with 2GB RAM and windows 7 home basix 64-bit OS. Out of the 2GB ram 1.48GB was usable initially. Recently I added another 2GB ram to the empty slot.
In the BIOS, it shows 4GB RAM and windows also shows 4GB ram but still only 1.48GB RAM is usable and there is no improvement in performance, it still lags all the same. I tried to increase max memory in MSCONFIG but there it is already at maximum setting. I also tried to switch the RAM slots so that RAM 1 goes to slot 2 and vice-versa but to no avail.
Please help, it lags so much even web surfing is a head-ache.

Solution
Try the new DRAM by itself - it may not be compatible or it simply doesn't want to play with the old - if it won't boot by itself it's incompatible with the mobo and might check for a newer BIOS

Hey thanks for replying.. Yup the other ram is not compatible. Today I used CPU-Z which showed that the older ram which came with the laptop is 1.35 V but the newer ram that I installed is 1.5V rated and hence the problem. The insydeH2O BIOS in my hp laptop wont allow ocerclocking, its probably locked.

Now my other laptop has a single 4gb RAM rated 1.35 V and I placed it in my hp laptop and rremoved the other two. Now the usable memory shows 2.99GB but the problem is that even after just starting the windows and without any programs running 91-96% ram is full and it lags all the same! :( any clue why is it happening?

One more thing, when I put the earlier 1.35 2GB Ram in combination with the other 4GB 1.35V ram the installed memory shows 6GB but still the usavle remains same at 2.99 GB.
