My problem: laptop computer has died. Power cord / AC adapter does nothing. I have checked all connections multiple times. This is an old laptop and overheats all the time, but it usually works fine after it cools down. It worked great last night, no turning off due to overheating, but I did notice the battery light glowing we even though I had it plugged in. Turned power off when I went to bed. Turned it on this am and battery light flashing. Computer began doing a disk drive check on my C drive. It passed all the checks, then turned off. I am well aware that I need a laptop but can't afford one at the moment. The power cord / AC adapters are pretty expensive and will no doubt have to be mailed since it is so old. I'd hate to waste time and money to find that's not the problem at all. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
My Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A300 series, specifically A305D-S6848 that I bought in the year 2002 or 2003.

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start with a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again.
- If it will still shut down by itself, remove the battery and test weather if the laptop will still shut down with just the AC adapter connected and without the battery.
- If it will still shutdown, do try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If the same problem will persist using a different AC adapter, do open the laptop and clean the inside of it. Apply new thermal paste on the CPU as well to help in cooling it down.
- If all these will not work that means the problem will be the motherboard already.
