Hi,

So my sister's laptop was overheating constantly and shutting down. being a good bro, I said I'd help out if I can.

I opened it up, cleaned the cooler, changed the paste, put it back together, and POOF no more screen or bios or anything. Having rechecking everything I concluded that the MB was damaged and even got a new one. I've got the same problem with a brand new one as well. Can anyone help out? I don't know what it could be. The laptop is Compaq Presario CQ 57 Intel

Hi,

Here are some additional troubleshooting steps that you may want to try.
- If you can hear the laptop on with the fans spinning, connect an external monitor and see if you'll get a display on it because the problem may lie in the display itself not the motherboard.
- If there's still no display on the external monitor try a different Ac adapter that has the same voltage with yours and see if it will work or not.
- If all these will not work I would suggest replacing the motherboard that you purchased with a new one. The replacement motherboard should had been fixed the problem already.

Thanks for the help. I tried almost everything until I figured out it wouldn't boot up since I was sent a slightly different MB. I assume the CPU fits pin by pin, but will not run on this one. Going to refund it and get a new one. Seems that the old one is done for.
Appreciate the input very much, thanks again! :)
