Sony vaio won't connect to Internet

Solution
You should only remove your AV if it had a built-in firewall which might have been preventing Net access. If it was just an AV, reinstall it and check in Control Panel to see if turning off the Windows firewall but only for long enough to see if you can connect.
Start off in Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections tab>LAN Button and make sure the Detect automatically" box is ticked and remove a tick from the Proxy box.

If that checks out OK press your Windows key and R together then at the Command Prompt, type
netsh winsock reset catalog
then press Enter. Restart the machine and see if things work properly.
