USB keyboard not working on sleep / restart (works on full shutdown/reboot)

I have a brand-new Dell laptop running Windows 10 Home. I'm using a 3rd party mechanical keyboard from Steelseries, which works great (love it!).

However, if I restart without turning the computer all the way off, or wake it up from sleeping, the keyboard doesn't work at all until I unplug and replug it.

If I shut down all the way and then turn it back on with the power button, it works fine.

I found some old forum posts elsewhere about a similar problem in Windows 7... but no solution.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello Tzivia

Looks like Mungbeans on this forum has a solution. Although for Logitech, the method may still work for your keyboard as well. (Note: For Windows 10, you may need to download the latest version of Windows Driver Kit.)

In addition to that, you can also try the suggestion given by jonjones88 on the same post.

Also, sometimes, going to the Power Options window, clicking the Change plan settings for the currently active power plan, clicking Change advanced power settings, expanding the USB settings tree, and then enabling/disabling the USB selective suspend setting for both On battery and Plugged in does the trick. You may want to give it a try...

You may want to give it a try too. Don't forget to revert the settings back to the previous configuration it the solution doesn't help.

Feel free to report back if further assistance is needed.

Cheers!! :)
