This is the first time I've ever been unable to find my issue and I need your help.

I have an Acer ultrabook. The kind with the internal battery. Whenever I try and boot, after the initial screen it boots to a black screen with an unblinking cursor. It will boot like this every single time, however if I go into the BIOS, and not do anything just click "exit discarding changes" it'll boot properly.

I have tried updating every single driver for the device, including the motherboard one. I have tried disconnecting the battery from the motherboard and doing a "generic reset". There is no CMOS battery on the motherboard to even pull, and I am completely lost.

I ran a very detailed hardware scan with a trusted software and there is no issue found. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

While you're inside BIOS press the F9 button and it should reset BIOS into its default. Once done, press F10 to Save and Exit, see what will happen after doing this step. If the same problem will persist proceed with reseating the RAM's as well, remove all the RAM off the laptop for couple of seconds then put them back in and see if it will boot normally all the time. If all these will not work and if you have a spare HDD do try it with your laptop and see if the same problem will persist or not. Chances are the HDD is already acting up that's why it's getting stuck on the black screen.
