Microphone won't work on PC

I have a windows 8 laptop that I have recently updated to windows 10. I also have a HyperX Cloud Core headset. The mic works fine on my phone and the headphones don't have any problems on my PC. However, the mic will not work on the PC. In my playback menu, it has the headphones as default communications and as default device and my mic volume is turned up in the "Properties" menu for the headset. Every time I try to test it, it still uses the laptop's mic. In my recording menu, the Realtek High Definition Audio Microphone and the Stereo Mix (Which has an icon of a motherboard) are the only two options. The first one is the default for both actions. The volume is up all the way on that one, and changing the boost isn't the problem either. The headset has only one chord, and the mic doesn't work with that one, but it came with a splitter for mic and headphones (but my laptop only has one jack). I have a thing that makes them both into one jack, but it doesn't work with that either. My pc used to work with a different headset using that device to combine the two channels. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by checking if the headset microphone is being detected.
- Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices then if the microphone of your headset is listed, right click on it and select Set Default then click Apply and OK.
- If it will not work, uninstall/reinstall the sound card driver of your laptop.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound card driver.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer site of the laptop.
- Reboot the laptop once the driver has been installed then test it again and see if it will work or not.
