My Nikon S9300 turns on, extends the lens all the way out as soon as I turn it on. The screen never turns on, and the only light that turns on is around the power button. The only way that I can retract the lens is to take the battery out. Any ideas as to what is causing the camera to freeze?

This would best be answered by contacting Nikon technical support.
It is remotely possible that there is some issue with either battery or SD card which could cause this, but those are very unlikely. Far more likely is an internal fault in the camera. Given that it is a 4 year old bridge camera, repairs will most likely exceed its value.
