So this has happened twice now and it's concerning me. I have a surface book i5 with the gpu, and twice in the last week I've closed the lid to put it to sleep, put it into a carrying case, and went off to school. Today and the time before when I took it out of the bag a few hours later the thing was hot to the touch, and this time around I was greeted with a thermometer symbol on my screen when I tried to wake it from sleep. I gave it a few minutes and then it booted up the second time I tried, and everything seems to be okay (I'm typing this question on it as well). I guess my question is should a. should I be concerned about the fact that I got that icon upon booting (as in is that indicating any sort of damage to the machine? or am I overreacting?), and b. how can I fix this issue without having to obviously shut down the computer every time I put it in a case?

Thanks!

its possible that either the space in your bag is too tight so heat is just building up in the bag or that the lid is popping open enough that its exiting sleep mode all the time in the bag. So I guess you'll have to try experimenting with either a more open bag or placement in your bag and also find some way (rubber band?) to make sure the lid stays closed to see if that is the source of the problem.

You can try asking over on the Surface Reddit group as well. They might have a better experience answer for you. https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/
