My laptop charger suddenly stopped working. When I plug it in an orange chargeing light comes on, it's able to give enough power to turn it on for a couple of seconds, but then it turns off. Before the battery was completely de-charged it was able to reach the login screen where the icon indicated it was not charging. I'm pretty sure the problem is with the charger, specifically with the connection between the cord which is plugged into the wall and the power brick because when I wiggled the charging icon showed up for a second.

Solution
You have de-bugged your problem - Replace the AC Adapter. They are available for around $25. The output of the AC Adapter should be around 19.4 VDC.

Or, if you are handy, try and repair your existing AC Adapter.
More likely than the charger itself it's the motherboard connection, especially if it uses old style DC jacks (tube and pin). Double check to make sure it's not that, and if it's the charger 100%, then just replace the charger. No other options.

If when you double check it's not the charger, it might be a bad battery or the connection I stated above. Remove the battery and see if it works fine, if so then it's a bad battery, if not most likely it's the motherboard connector. Most shops can fix that for you without new parts, and shouldn't take more than 30min if the technician knows what he's doing

Absolutely never modify power supplies unless you are well versed in electrical engineering! You can cause serious damage to your computer and yourself, possibly even start a fire. If you don't know how to properly splice cables and check for bad connections, don't even think about "fixing" it yourself.

Yes I agree! And, personally, I have total competence about these matters!
