I recently installed AutoCAD to test out some of its features but then noticed when I tried to open up the screen saver "ribbons.src" it accociated all src files with AutoCAD. At first it'd open notepad and after installing all AutoCAD related programs it windows asks me to use a program to open it with. All I want to use is my screensaver because I have it bound to a macro so I can use it whenever but now AutoCAD messed with the .src file type in Regedit and I don't know what data value to assign it.

Solution
In the registry, my computer (Windows 10) has "scrfile" per the following AutoCad link:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-change-SCR-file-association-to-AutoCAD-script-file-instead-of-Windows-screen-saver.html

So what you need to do is select the .scr and modify (by right clicking the Name entry that appears in the right screen area.

Then right click to modify the Value data string.

Probably from "AutoCadscriptfile" on your system to "scrfile". Without quotes.

As always double check my findings and backup your registry beforehand.

I tried doing that but I don't know what program to open it with, I wasn't sure if it was Explorer.exe but that didn't work. I wasn't sure what it originally opened as before it was changed.

This worked perfectly, thanks I'll make sure to keep it in mind. The screensaver opens properly now without any errors.
