Can I upgrade my processor to an I5 or I7

Okay so I have a Acer Travelmate 5742 with a Intel Core I3-380M, as much as I can find is that it is a PGA988 Socket but Im just wondering if i could get another pga988 processor and switch it out. Thanks to anyone who can help.

These according to a service guide:
Intel® Core i5-450M/i5-460M/i5-540M/i5-560M/i5-580M processor.
Intel® Core i3-350M/i3-370M/i3-380M processor.

I also read about a guy putting a i7-640m in as well. http

OK thanks for the help. The thread is quite helpful just need to figure out which CPU I should get now, wouldn't mind putting an i7 inside.

Well usually the best cpu in a line stays expensive just because it is the very best so going down a notch or two can make a huge difference in price. I would search on ebay and other sites and see what they are going for. My guess is that you will be able to be the i5 with most of the performance of the i7 for well less than half the price of the i7. This is still an older laptop so no point dumping a crazy amount of money into it.
