I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E560 20EV with Windows 7, which I just got 2 days ago. I noticed a problem where the computer will not wake up after sleeping. The Think light turns on and I can hear the fan, but the screen remains dark. This is getting really annoying, as I have to reboot my laptop every time this happens. I have already updated a bunch of drivers to no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Solution

Probably best to run a HDD scanning utility to assess the health before assuming the HDD is failing.
Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Start by changing the Power Options settings.
- Open Power Options and click on Change plan settings then Change advanced power settings on the next screen.
- Expand Hard disk first then set Turn off hard disk after to Never.
- Expand Sleep and set Allow hyrbid sleep to OFF and set Hibernate after to NEVER.
- Click Apply and OK.
- Do open Device Manager next and set your keyboard and Mouse to wake up your PC.
- In Device Manager right click on Mouse/Keyboard and select Power Management.
- Make sure there's a check on Allow this device to wake the computer and click OK.
- Do test your PC again after doing all these changes.

Can you confirm that it's Sleeping? Or is it coming out of Hibernation?

Try closing your lid when this happens, wait 4 - 5 seconds, then open the lid again.

It's not there. The power options are in you Windows Control Panel. You can also find them by right-clicking on your battery icon (near your time and date; lower right corner), then selecting "power options."

Your HDD is failing. The coming on after sleep and trackpad were 2 common problems that came from bad sectors on HDD. If under warranty return for warranty repair. If not replace drive and install OS
