HD TV vs PC monitor

I am looking to purchase a new screen for my PC and have been looking at going bigger.

My PC has HDMI port and was wondering if there is any reason why a normal HD ready TV wouldn't work as good as a proper pc monitor.

Would there be any problems with image? I read on another question that some say there will be overscan issues or ghosting, surely if I have HDMI output then this should be fine for a tv with HDMI input?

I am also drawn to a tv as it would have sound outputs.

Any one give me any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea or advice please.

Computer screens normally look much better and have a much faster response time compared to that of a TV. It is possible to get monitors with built in speakers. Many Acer monitors have this feature.

In conclusion go with PC monitor though much better performance especially when gaming.

Pretty much what above poster said.
TVs have high response times, as they're typically only meant to be used for watching media.
PC monitors have much lower response time.
If you're just going to be watching movies and stuff, go for an IPS PC monitor, if you're big on gaming, get a TN with a high refresh rate like the Acer XB270 series

I will 3rd that.

Overscan issues: the TV, for the most part, will have a "PC mode" to adjust to the PC's output.

Ghost: Turn off TV's "sharpen edge" feature.

Speakers: As mentioned, monitors with built-in speakers exist, you just have to look.
