I'm trying to connect my bluetooth speakers to my laptop which is running windows 7.

My laptop sends the message that I need the correct driver, but the laptop never finds it online - nor can I!!

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Solution

Hi, Math Geek and DarkBreeze!!

My friend spent about 2 hours of quality time with my laptop and headphones - they are now working and sound INCREDIBLE!!

This is where Terry found the answer: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/bluetooth-peripheral-device-driver-missing-dell/9856b05f-ab34-4e79-bad1-f1d5164e0557

Thank you...

is it asking for the driver for the bluetooth on the laptop to get it running or the driver for the bluetooth speakers themselves. there should not be a driver for the speakers but if it is missing the driver for the bluetooth card itself, you'll probably find it on the support page for the laptop model.

That's nice, but since we don't know the model of your device or receiver unit, it's going to be pretty hard to help. Mostly bluetooth devices should automatically be supported, with no other drivers needed, but on Windows 7 you may either need to install a manufacturer specific driver if one is available, or it may simply not be supported in Windows 7. That's something that would entirely be up to the manufacturer of your bluetooth dongle.

What is the model of your bluetooth dongle or is it an integrated part of your laptop motherboard? If it's part of the motherboard, what is the exact laptop model number?

Thank you, Math Geek! I'm not very good at this, but have a friend who is helping me. When we get together, we'll work on this. I'll let you know what happens! Thanks again!

as darkbreeze said, we can help locate or troubleshoot if we know the model of laptop/bluetooth you are using, and the model of speaker oyu are trying to connect. it is possible it wants a driver and can't find it. unlikely but always a possibility

I didn't see darkbreeze's reply! Here's what I know for sure! :)

- The headphones are MEE Runaway;
-
- my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 14z N411z, 64-bit running Windows 7

here is the driver page for that laptop. under "network" there is a number of different drivers for different set-ups. you will need to figure out which network chip you have so you can download the right driver package. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-n411z/drivers

type "device manager" into the search bar at the bottom of the start menu and then look and see if anything has a yellow exclamation point in front of it. this is something that needs a driver. it may say right there what the device is so you can look it up. click on the "network adapters" item and it should tell you what network card is installed as well.

one of these should get you to the right driver you should download.

and don't worry about being new to this. we're old pros and will eventually drag the right info out of you :D often there is a bit of an interview type process where we try to get all the info we may need. it's so much easier sitting in front of the laptop but over time you learn how to ask the right questions.

Thank you! Great answers plus kindness! Doesn't get any better than that!

When I typed in Device Manager, it kept asking me to sign up for Microsoft to Go - which I definitely don't need. It wouldn't let me go any further than that.

I'm downloading Network_Intel_WLAN_W784_A02_Setup-37PPD_ZPE.exe - but it seems to be choosing A LOT OF files - many with exe. There was a green check mark next to this choice.

Yes, it very much sounds to me like you need somebody to do this who is more experienced. No offense, but none of what you mentioned in the last three posts should even be anything that's even remotely going on. If downloading driver files is causing you problems, then it would be better to get some help.

if nothing else can always do a teamviewer inspection for you. through that program i can log into and take over your pc and look myself. then i'll know for sure what you have and don't have.

it's a simple program to use and set-up and once done, it is easy to remove so no one can access your pc once it is done. i have done this before many times when someone was just not able to go through the steps. :)

let you're friend have a look see and if it's still messed up we can give this a shot.

Here's a question that you could help me with today (Finally a simple one!)! When I respond to a comment from you, should I type it right below what you wrote, then hit post your answer?

Or should I type it into this space under Ask the community / Your answer ?

Thank you!!
