Ugh I hate when they have onboard RAM. That can limit to what you can upgrade. So you replaced the 1 replaceable stick with a 8GB stick, and it only showed 4, and then when you put the 4GB that came with it back in, it still only showed 4GB.

Have you looked to see what it shows in the BIOS? This laptop is so new I can't find anything on this issue so we will be troubleshooting with no other help rather than what we can test. If anything you can always contact ASUS and ask them what RAM is supported, if it can even be upgraded.

Also make sure no pins are bent.

And as i posted need exact brand and model number of the ram you bought. Also need the same for the existing stick of ram so we can see what they had in it and what you got...

what ram did you put in it? Need exact model number.

And it is just not booting or when you load windows it doesn't see the added ram?

Are you replacing all your ram or just adding a stick of ram?

When it comes to laptops choosing the correct memory can be tricky.
Depending on what it states the laptop came with in some cases, when bought pre setup with windows.
The laptop can often be fitted with the maximum amount of memory the two provided memory slots can access.

Each memory slot due to what we call the memory controller of the motherboard or cpu model with the laptop.
Can only see, access and utilize a set amount of memory size and density of each memory stick fitted to the system.

So if it states the system comes with say 8gb of ram memory, via two memory slots.
You need to check if it can support as an example 16Gb of memory with two memory modules of 8Gb capacity and density, and each memory slot can read and address 8Gb memory modules.

If not any extra memory on the ram module above say a total of 8Gb is simply ignored.
You can often find this out by looking at the memory qvl list for the laptop, and the listed branded type of memory modules along with the speed rating of them, what the maximum density of each memory stick capacity is as a maximum readable and addressable the system or laptop can use.
And should check this before you buy any other memory in a larger capacity or speed rating.

Or you run into the problem explained above all laptops, and motherboards in tower based pc`s as well have a limitation on the density, size and capacity each memory slot of the motherboard can effectively read, address and access.

And is no doubt the cause as to why it is not seen in windows 10.

A test is to go into the bios of the laptop.
If it reads 16Gb of memory.
Then the problem is windows is capped.

Simply load windows 10 up.
click on search.
Type: MSCONFIG
And click on the search result.

In the new window, box that opens.
Click on the boot tab at the top.
And then Advanced options.

You will see a check box to your right saying maximum memory.
If it is set to 8Gb of memory as the size. (8192 MB)
Simply un tick the maximum memory check box.
Then click ok.

Click on apply and then ok in the other box or window.
Restart the laptop.

Re load windows in normal mode.

Then in the search box type: system info.
If it displays 16Gb as an example.
And bellow 13.8 usable.

It was windows 10 OS locked to use only 8 GB as a maximum of total system memory as the cause.
Some system and laptop vendors do this.

It`s a pain, they should leave the memory config usage for windows system ram alone and let it auto configure usage of system ram, as fitted and the system is upgraded in memory capacity.
And why it catches so many people out, as to why the correct amount of memory fitted is not displayed via windows os.

This will fix the problem for you, so windows reports all 16GB of memory and utilize it when needed.

Problem solved in most cases.

Ok when i got this putor it came with 8gig of ram i wanted more; asus comes with 4gig hard wired in and a single slot which had a 4 gig stick i have replaced the 4gig stick with a compatable 8 gig stick when booted and on it only shows 4 gig now when going to msconfig and following your instructions it still only shows 4 gig i then replaced the originel 4 gig stick and it still only shows 4 gig i am at a loss to explain it ..cpu-z only shows 4 gig as does my ram booster. it also shows that i have 11.7 gig of virtual memory and only 3.9 gig of physical memory
