Hello,
I have tried recently to play Dota 2 on my new Laptop and it is with a really low fps.
I would like to know if my rig is too weak for the game or if you have any tips to improve the performance.

Toshiba Satellite S50-A-10H
Intel i7-4700MQ
GeForce GT 740M
8GB RAM 1333MHz
HDD 1Tb 5400rpm

The only way to play without laggin is with all the video setting on the minimum.
All my drivers are up to date and the energy settings are all set to high performance.

One of the possible problems that I see is that the laptop also has a onboard graphic card (Intel HD Graphics 4600), so it may be using this device on Dota. Anyone can help me to learn which card is being used?

Thanks in advance.

Your laptop has switchable graphics, Intel 4600 for normal use, GT 740m for games or apps requiring high-performance graphics.

When you install a game, you need to configure the graphics settings so that the GT 740m will be used for that game - - you only need to configure it once, thereafter it will be used automatically.

Two methods (second method is easiest) :

1) Control Panel >> Nvidia Control Panel
In left-hand panel, click Manage 3D Settings
In main panel, click the Program Settings tab.

or

2) Right-click that game's shortcut, go to "Run with graphics processor..." in the context-menu, choose which GPU you wish that game to use. You only need to do that one time, not every time you want to play that game.
