Clean installing Windows 7 in thinkpad T420

Hi all,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T420 (from a friend) and I want a clean/default OS (as a new looking operating system. So, I have googled how to do it but I'm confused with the 'Q" (recovery) drive now. Some say it restores the laptop to factory default. But what I want is to get the full size of the hard drive.

So,

1) Can I click "recover drive space" after double clicking on the "Q" drive and then merge that partition using any partition tool?

2) Or can I format the Q drive at the start during clean installing OS?

3) Or I can restore the current OS to factory default settings?

Please advise me which option is the best to do.

Thanks in advance.

You should go for the 3rd. Formatting a drive can be risky. The magnetic material on a drive's platters might eventually "wear out" and lose it's ability to store magnetic charges.
