In my view, between the two, Dell is the winner, and not just for reliability/durability.
Customer support on the web is also important, and Dell is hands down the winner there too.
However, if it were me buying, I wouldn't buy either brand.
I would choose a top-end Toshiba model, their top-end laptops beat the other two brands by a considerable margin.

We've repaired a LOT of dell laptops and workstations here over the past 15 years. Dell used to be good. In the past 5 years their quality has fallen off quite a bit. I would not recommend them until they get their suppliers back in order on QC/QA issues.
