Hello everyone. I always hook my laptop up with my TV with a HDMI cable. Today, when I came home from the gym, my laptops screen was black (because I didn't move my mouse or pressed any keys) and my TV screen was black (because he hasn't sensed any activity for X amount of time so turns off). When I turned my TV back on it said that it doesn't have a signal. Ofcourse I tried going to display settings and I saw there was only 1 screen and no other external monitor.

So first I tried unhooking and replugging the HDMI cable and putting it in different ports, still no signal. After that I've tried looking for driver updates (Intel HD Graphics) and there were none. So I've made an attempt to do a system recovery and I still have no signal. I even changed the HDMI cables (I have several). I've hooked my neighbors laptop on my TV and his worked, so it's the laptop.

So 1 note: my laptop has been having some screen trouble when starting up sometimes. It would look like the VGA is broken or something because the screen would be half covered in green. Within a minute it would turn back to normal. I've asked the computer mechanic what the problem could be and he told me it's probably the connection between my laptop monitor and the laptop itself. And if I were to connect it to a external screen, it should have no trouble, and it didn't. However all of the sudden now it fails to connect to my TV.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Start by doing a clean install of the graphics driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the graphics card driver.
- Check Programs and Features and uninstall anything related to your graphics card.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver from the manufacturers site.
- For Intel here's the link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ (just do the automatic detect and install)
- Reboot your laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do test your laptop again with your external display.
- Press the Windows key + P at the same time and select between Extended or Duplicate display.

Thanks for your reply laptop nerd. I've uninstalled the intel graphics from device manager and there wasn't anything to find on programs and features. However when I search for drivers with the software from the site u mentioned it tells me he can't find any drivers.

Which is weird because my windows update is telling me theres a driver update
