I've had this laptop for a while with no major issues. Laptop is a Dell L502x With the i7. Only issues i've had were minor viruses here and there and occational blue screen when i upgraded to 16gb ram. But later bought the correct ram and blue acreen issues went away. Yesterday got an odd blue screen, was dumping cache but never reset, i manually reset the laptop only to have the mouse pointer give me a busy signal but hard drive doesn't appear to be doing anything. I'm fearing that my hard drive is coming to an end. Even in safe mode, windows loads, then sits in busy mode and won't let me do anything. Could it be a potential virus? It would be odd that it would act this way in safe mode. I already was planning on Upgrading to an SSD, just not this soon. Suggestions highly appreciated.

Solution
1. Use your phone's flash as a torch and check the air vents to see if its caked with dust.
2. Do a disk and sfc check from command prompt.

-- In command prompt type "chkdsk" without quotations.
-- In command prompt type "sfc /scannow".
3. Download malwarebytes antimalware and do a full scan.
