So I have a Dell Inspiron 17r 7720 SE.

I took everything apart using this guide :-

Also put everything back. The first time I didn't properly plug in the powwer cable into one of the sockets and it wasn't powering on, fixed that, breathed a sigh of relief...

Now I managed to start the laptop, get into windows PASSING THROUGH MY PASSWORD LOGIN SCREEN. I capitalize because the login uses the alphabet 'C' which is currently unusable on the keyboard otherwise.

So clearly it worked the first login, but after that it has just stopped running/working.
EDIT : In case you're wondering what I did in the first login, I just turned on this hardware temperature measuring software, paint, steam and chrome, those were it. In that order, I remember because I was trying to compare screenshots previously taken and afterwards and I was unable to scroll them because the left right down keys also don't work.

Now I'm trying to figure out what the issue could be here. Some keys work and some don't. Everything was working fine prior to the disassembly and I don't think I did anything wrong.

The only extra thing I did was to mess around a little bit with a PHYSICAL clip that just depresses the keyboard into place. It has no electrical connections to it.

I'm using both an onscreen keyboard and an external usb keyboard to type this message out.

FIXES ATTEMPTED YET :-

1. The removing power cable, removing battery pressing power button down, holding for 60 seconds then trying to test it.
2. Removing the keyboard devices from the Device manager and restarting the pc.
3. Reinstaling/adjusting the cable MULTIPLE times.
4. Cutting 1mm off the end of the keyboard cable to try and refresh a connection.

PLEASE help me out I can't for the life of me figure out what suddenly went wrong.

These are the errors I see when testing in Dell's Bios Test (F12)

Funnily enough even though it says Wireless WLAN not installed, my Wifi is working just fine...

EDIT COUNT : 3 & Final

Guys I just wanted to update you all. I ended up getting a secondary company keyboard from amazon for like 20 bucks and reinstalled it myself to work just fine.

I tried to take it to a local technician (they aren't good at all, which is why I did the cleaning and repasting therma by myself) as he said he could try to cut the keyboard cable and shave something off himself for a better connection. He ended up just wasting my time and I inevitably just did an overnight keyboard delivery by amazon. It took less than a minute to reconnect it straight out of the box not fiddling around with anything whatsoever.

Still never figured out what cause the issue.

However towards the end the T button was also randomly working or not working.

I'm using an Inspiron 17R 7710 Keyboard on my 7720 laptop and it works just fine.

FINAL UPDATE :-
Dell was asking for 4000 of my currency to fix it and a 3 week wait time. I fixed it within a day and for 800. Obviously my keyboard is a local one but considering it's 3+ years old I don't expect many benefits from a brand new keyboard.

Two werid things to add to this :-

One is that the time for some reason just got messed up after this entire thing.
Two and more importantly THE ENTIRE LAST ROW 'zxcvbn....' etc are not working. Including spacebar. Yet ctrl and alt are working.

Hey Zero,

I've done that and cutting and reattaching the keyboard cable twice already. I just used a tissue to clean the back of the keyboard but I didn't touch the connectors at all. Plus most of the cleaning was done arnd the WASD area which is right above the fan. I also didn't apply any pressure, just whisked it off.

I'll be attaching some pictures of the errors I see in a BIOS test.

Only possible issues here is that the keyboard is not attached properly, you damaged the connection on the motherboard or on the keyboard. Past re-checking your connections, you need to try a new keyboard. If that does not work, then the issue lies with the motherboard. You probably can't fix that without replacing the whole motherboard.

Hello newu

You're wireless WAN is not installed, not LAN, anyway thats not pertinent with this issue, hopefully purchasing a new cable will fix the issue better than buying a whole new keyboard. Hopefully the connection on the keyboard and motherboard are fine. Until then you can use a usb keyboard, im sure a technician can fix the connections if thats the case however finding a trusted and reasonable priced tech is another issue.
