I have a Toshiba Satellite A 135 - S4467 laptop which I have had for several years. The screen has become very dark, similar to looking at a negative film. The images on screen are just barely visible. I don't want to return this Toshiba for repair as I don't want to have my data erased. Any suggestions what the problem may be and any solutions would be appreciated please.

Your backlight has probably failed, if it is the case you should easy enough and far cheaper than a new screen.
