Title says it PC has static when using headsets. I have to bring windows volume down to about 12-16 then adjust my turtle beach x12's dial to up the sound or else I get a large amount of static.
I just bought a audio technica ATH-M40x which cant have its volume adjusted and so I am hearing a lot of static. I know little to nothing about audio so my question is there a simple fix to this or do I need something like a sound card.

Thanks

are you using the front ports or rear ports. sometime static is from the plug not sitting right in the port. if both have static see if the audio cable for the case port is going over some fans or power wires. if not see if wifi usb stick or card is near the sound card and your picking up cross talk. if you cant get the static out look for a sound card with a headphon amp. some of the newer soundblaster cards use the same audio chipset as mb so there not any better then onboard sound chipset.

Ok after some testing I found that the static only happens when it is plugged into the Motherboard but not in the front panel. I checked for any interference and I didn't see any thing. I do not have a sound card so would getting one allow me to plug a headset into the the motherboard without static?

check that there no shield touching the sound card pins. if you have a wifi card or a wireless mouse and keyboard move them to the front see if the audio his stops from the rear. if it does it cross talk. if is does not i would pick up a good sound card with an audio amp and turn off onboard sound. make sure the new sound card comes with frount adio header.

Ok I check the io shield it tried unplugging my mouse and keyboard (which are wired) and it tried removing my network card all at once still static. So I think I will be getting a sound card do you have any recommendations?
