Hi, I've got a black screen on my sony vaio vpc12S1E, I haven't used this laptop for over a year. Only the leds of the power and battery are on (except for wifi led?). Any advise would be welcome, thank you!

Screen could have broken over that time, try plugging in a VGA cable and connect it to another screen if possible to see if works.

Just to clarify, your screen is black from when you start-up the laptop right?

Yes from the start there is a black screen. I've already tried the vga cable, connected to my TV, no signal.

Hi, remove the battery, unplug the adapter, hold the power button for one minute, after just connect the adapter and try starting the laptop.

The power button is not exactly a button, it's a slider you have to push it to the right, but still black.

I don't know if you have an easy access to the RAM, you can try to take them out and reinstall after. If nothing happens, maybe the CMOS battery is dead, you could change the CMOS battery (ML1220). If you have the same result, a component on the motherboard is defective.

I've tried to reinstall the ram, nothing happened. Maybe a new ram? Where is th CMOS battery?

A new RAM will not resolve the problem, you have to open the laptop to find the CMOS battery.

Is it a small round battery? How many years will a CMos battery last? Will It be dead after 7 years? I have to open the laptop completely to find this battery..:-(

Sorry but yes, you need to open the laptop to replace the battery, if the battery is dead, it could stop the laptop to use the POST. The CMOS battery is something to verify.
