A friend gave me an Asus SonicMaster S500C notebook that will not power on: no lights of any kind; no beeps; the fan doesn't even twitch. This laptop looks brand new inside and out. I've tried all the tricks I'm familiar with:
Taken the battery out and pressed the power button for 30, 60, and 90 sec--nothing
Unplugged the hardware in various combinations--nothing
I've taken a multimeter to the AC adapter and it gives me the specified voltage and amps--this same voltage and amp is also getting to the MB. I've also taken the multimeter to the battery, though it gives me no charge, it does show me continuity in the circuitry.
Has anyone explerienced the same or similiar issue and found the solution? I'm at a loss here. Any advice and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I've taken the hd, ram, and wifi card and tested them in another laptop, they function properly.

Hi,

You've pretty much done all the possible troubleshooting steps with your laptop and seem like a motherboard problem to me. Here are some more troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by removing the battery and try booting it up using just its AC adapter.
- If these doesn't work do reseat the RAM's, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in then try booting it up again.
- Do also try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if that will make any difference.
- If all these will not work unfortunately it's the motherboard.
