Hi guys,
I own a 2-year old Asus k55vm sx086d (i7,8gb). A few days back while playing Fifa on my laptop connected to my tv via HDMI the laptop suddenly shut down. This has happened before due to thermal shut down, however this time it was not hot. The laptop did not start i.e. black screen not even reaching BIOS and I gave it to a local computer guy. The guy concluded the following:
1) The display was tested (It worked)
2) After a few tinkering with the ram he found that the laptop worked only with 2GB ram. (Then he made me buy the ram).
3) The laptop starts when only the 2gb ram is connected. It does not start when used in combination with 4gb stick.
He told me it is a motherboard issue and cannot be solved. Plus I checked the ram in a friend's laptop and the ram does work but not in my laptop.

Guys what would you suggest me?
1) Change motherboard.
2) Live in the misery of my 2gb ram with i7 config.

Note: I've tried disconnecting the battery and pressing the power button method, but it was to no avail. Currently using it with 2GB ram (please help I'm in too much pain)

Hi,

I'm with you about changing the motherboard but it would almost cost like a new laptop already. Here are few troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First, do install the latest BIOS version there is.
- Here's the latest BIOS version from Asus: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/K55VM/K55VMAS211.zip
- Once installed do test the additional RAM again and see if it would boot up or not.

Also just to be sure, the additional RAM that is not working is compatible with your laptop right?

Your laptops RAM is a: DDR3 1600MHz SDRAM and you can upgrade up to 8GB.
