BIOS wont let me change boot drive

Im on a Toshiba Satellite p855-s5200 running windows 7

My BIOS is called Aptio System Utility and I've recently updated it from Toshibas site.

I installed a samsung SSD in place of my ODD. I've already formated, partitioned, and cloned my HDD over to it. Now i'd like to set it as my boot drive.

Heres a couple screen shots of the BIOS.

In the first link, I cannot highlight the harddrive and in the second link there is no submenu to the HDD/SSD. All I can do is change the order of the given options.

I've found a bunch of threads where people are trying to boot from external drives or usb and are limited by this BIOS. However, all the solutions I've found include enabling "Launch CSM" and enabling sub option "PXE opROM" ....or disabling "Secure Boot".

I dont have any of these settings in my BIOS so I'm assuming I have a different version of this aptio utility.

Any ideas?

Hi, why not interchange the two drives?

Select the hdd and chose your pen derive there.
Dont forget legacy boot to eneble.

Get a normal boot mode(fastbootispassalloptions)
Select your booting media by f9-f11-f12

Hi Ali, not sure what you mean. I cant change the drive anywhere in my BIOS.

I dont see any setting for enabling legacy boot either. I had actually seen that as a working solution in archived threads but it must be a different version of the BIOS.

I have boot mode set to normal already.

The error you have from the SSD when you replace the HDD, the SSD is not a bootable drive.

It depend of the program you use to clone the drive with. Maybe it clone all the files but not the MBR.

I see. I read some more and realized that my drive wasnt set as active in Computer Management. I set it as active and now when I try to boot the SSD from the main SATA port I get a different error: missing BOOTMGR.

I cloned with a program EaseUS todo backup just cause its what my tutorial recommended. Should I try to do it again with the Samsung Migration tool? If so, do I need to format the SSD first?

I don't think you have to format the SSD to repair the MBR. You have to search how to repair the MBR.

Got it working, thanks. Ended up just re-cloning using the Samsung software which cloned the MBR properly.

turns out my ODD is SATA II while the hard drive dock is SATA III, so I'm better off with this config anyway.

Still feel a little defeated by my BIOS, but alls well that ends well.
