Hello everyone!

My father's old laptop is finally showing clear signs of " i can't take any of this anymore" , and he was planning on buying a brand new one.
He dosen't have experience (and neither do i) in computer brand, so I was wondering if you could write a few suggestions that suit his needs.

His daily tasks consist in writing on microsoft word and storing files (documents, video, photos)
Also, he would like to get something whose battery is really long (16 hours? Is that a thing?)
And last, only Windows.

This labtop looks ideal

ThinkPad T450 Ultrabook Laptop

5th generation intel cores

17 hours of battery life

A lot of storage space

price is 800+ but great notebook

I hope you found this useful

The T450 is a little heavy (never thought I'd say that about a 1.7 kg laptop, but it's 2016 and there are lighter options out there), and will be heavier with the extended battery. Also, the screen is not very good. Poor color saturation and low contrast ratio. On the plus side, it's a Thinkpad so is virtually guaranteed to last 10 years.

If long battery life is your primary criteria, look at the Dell XPS 13 with non-touch (1080p) screen. Most reviews have it lasting 12-15 hours, 1.3 kg.

If you can compromise a bit on the battery life, also consider the Auss UX305LA. It pretty much matches the Dell on most specs for substantially less money, but only gets about 9-10 hours. The screen on both it and the Dell are substantially better than on the T450.

Optical drives are exceedingly rare on laptops nowadays. If you only need one occasionally, just buy a USB DVD drive for about $20.
