I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5548 with an i7-5500U, 8GB RAM, 4GB AMD R7 M265 and running on Win 10. The network adapter (Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-3160) disconnects from the WiFi often and now is showing code 45 (disconnected from laptop). Any other network card I could replace it with or should I continue using USB tethering?

The Broadcom 4352 with BT combo is a popular replacement for Intel Wireless Chips. According to most users it is more reliable than 3160 and 7260 adapters. It is AC, supports WiDi and works in laptops. I have one myself and have been running for two years without any single problem under Win7 and now Win10.

You can purchase it here (the cheapest i could find): http://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454674318&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=broadcom+4352

And you can get more reviews here: http://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-AW-CE123H-Bluetooth-Half-Size-PCI-Express/dp/B00HRFS1GQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454674318&sr=8-1&keywords=broadcom+4352

Does this pick up 5ghz router? That's the problem I'm having. It won't connect to my Linksys router and I just got my new computer today. I have to be in the same room as the modem/router and the minute I walk a few feet away, it disconnects. Mine is a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series Windows 10.

I'm connecting to a Cisco home router on the 2,4 and 5 ghz band and it works fine with both. I've LAN-partied a couple of times with other friends connected on the 5 ghz as well and i've had no interference, though we were in the same room as the router to get the best performance but a couple of other guys had to be in the next room and had no issues. I do agree that the 5ghz signal is a bit short but in my case it is not that bad either once you get connected. I can get like 2 rooms and a half with a stable 5ghz signal.
