connect my Dell laptop to Samsung SyncMaster 216BW monitor

I connected my new Dell laptop (HDMI) to my Samsung monitor (VGA) with an adapter and the monitor doesn't come on. It worked with my Acer laptop for years. I went into display settings and hit the detect but still nothing happened.

Hi,

When you connect your TV via the HDMI to VGA adapter press the Windows key + P at the same time and select between Duplicate and External display then press Enter. If it doesn't work do try the adapter with other devices first just to check if it's faulty or not. Please do also refer to this thread below related to this same kind of issue with their adapter.
