Can I put an intel core 2 duo e8400 CPU in my dell Inspiron 1545

I have a Inspiron 1545 that's slow with normal tasks. It has Windows 7 home edition. And Intel pentium dual. I was also wanting to do some gaming on this laptop? What would I need to upgrade to have decent gaming on this laptop, or is this even possible?

No. You can't just throw a desktop CPU on a different socket into a laptop. There are some other Core 2 Duos on Socket P, do you have your original documentation? You need to see if the CPU is actually supported by the motherboard (and Dell doesn't typically make these upgrades easy). You'll never get decent modern-day gaming even in this event, simply because it'll always just be the integrated GPU from nearly a decade ago.

Even if you managed to upgrade to the fastest CPU that system can handle, it will be too slow to play anything but older games or some simple flash games.

Hi, it will take more than just a CPU upgrade for the 1545 to handle modern games. The GPU is integrated, so is impossible to upgrade. Crucial has some solutions that are confirmed to work like RAM upgrades (up to 8GB) and SSD replacements. If you are a tinkerer and adventurous, though, there is a very tricky solution to get around the integrated GPU. However, you'll be creating a Frankenstein. The 1545 motherboard happens to don an Express Card slot. With a little research you can find mods to connect an external GPU. Like I said, though, it's a Frankenstein mod. Happy hunting!
