HP laptop running Vista will connect to a network via wifi, but not to the internet & the network remains "unidentified. As well, when using ethernet, it doesn't appear to recognize it's connected at all. I've looked around and tried things I've found with people having similar problems. I've tried the reset commands for ipv4, ipv6, & winsock, restarted & it still doesn't work. Firewall's turned off. I've also tried un&reinstalling the wireless driver. The actual ethernet driver doesn't seem to be able to be uninstalled (nothing happens when I try). This is what the ipconfig /all, gives me. Can anyone help?

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue. Do try to uninstall/reinstall the wireless adapter, use it hardwired first while you're doing troubleshooting with it.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter.
- Next is to download and install the wireless adapter from HP.
- Here's the link for that driver: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54972.exe
- Once installed reboot your laptop for all the changes to take effect.
- Do try to connect wireless again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If these will not work I would suggest running System Restore first, restore it back to an earlier date or time when it was working properly.
- If System restore will not work try connecting in Safe Mode with Networking.
- While the laptop is booting up repeatedly press on F8 until it shows Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode with Networking.
- In Safe Mode if it does connect that means it could be a problem with your firewall. (Norton or other Antivirus software).
- Uninstall your Antivirus software completely then try it again.
- Your last resort would be to reinstall Windows if all these troubleshooting steps will not work.
