I have a Gateway NE56RE4U that will not turn on. I've reset by taking the battery out and reinstalling it. And then hitting the power button and eventually it would come on. I first thought it was an issue with the power button but the button works to turn it off but not to turn it on. I desperately need to get it back on so I can get all my videos, music and pics downloaded to a storage drive. I've learned once it's on to NEVER turn it offf, but this morning my son hit the power button and it went off and I've tried everything I have found online except taking it apart, I'm not that technical and I'm afraid I'd definitely ruin it forever.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Do a hard reset, remove the battery and AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then see if it will boot up normally.
- Next is to test the AC adapter and see if it's supplying enough voltage to power the laptop or better yet try another AC adapter that has the same voltage.
- If there are lights on the laptop indicating it's on connect an external monitor again and see if you'll get a display.
- Also do try and reseat the RAM, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure that they are all seated properly into each slot.
- If all these will not work the problem lies in the motherboard of your laptop.

That happened to my computer but I can put my fingernail in the side of the on button and pull - and it turns on the computer. Pressing the button does not work.

By the way, any problem with leaving the computer on????
