Hi
I can't find any record of this happening so I have to ask. This Lenovo Ideapad N586 with Windows 8 will start and show the multicolored screen with time and date. When a key is pressed it goes to a blue screen with a log in for Other User. This laptop never had a login or password set as far as I know and always started up to the main screen without a login.
The back story is that I have been asked to debug this heavily infested machine which never had any protection at all and barely functioned. I used repeated cycles of Avast (boot time) Malwarebytes, and spybot to get it to where it would function. I uninstalled many programs that were PUP's or worse using CCleaner. I tried not to get anything vital and researched everything I removed.
The main user had Admin privileges and was the one that used to open. She never made a recovery thumbdrive when new. How can I get it to open again? I tried to start it with a bookable USB (yes the Bios is set to boot from USB) and also a CD but no luck. I hate to tell her to buy a new recovery disc from Lenovo, Any suggestions?

save everything important off the machine.
use the blue (or whatever) lenovo button to start the recovery partition, and you might be able to get to factory defaults from there which MIGHT get you to a 'create a user' option.

Personally I don`t recommend anyone uses CCleaner, it often does more damage, than help in most cases.
Because your dealing with the windows registry.

It is very likely CCleaner caused the other user login problem to happen.
On any windows machine there should always be a primary Account, and it is always set as an Admin account by default on windows install and setup.

If that registry value is removed it`s why your system prompts for another user login name and password.
The easy option is to look up the Lenovo recovery sequence.

Hi
Thanks for letting me know about the Recovery Service. Since F11 does nothing I will probably have to order a recovery CD. The problem is that I cannot get past the request for a password on the "Other" User which is a user that the owner states she has never assigned a password to. She just used the user that came on when she booted. No password ever for anything. I will need to back up her photos and settings before running the recovery program. How can I get past that "other" User? There is a link below the sign in box that says Sign In options and has 2 boxes with an image of a key but they don't seem to do anything.
