I bought a Toshiba Laptop S55-C5274 back in Augest and ever since then I have been having problems with sound. There was a recent driver update that caused the volume problem to happen less but the sound being butchered every now and then still happens.

This problem doesn't happen when I try a driver that was published in April but when I do that the mic doesn't seem to work. This seems to happen no matter what volume is at.

The only sound programs I have installed come with the conexant smartaudio hd which is SmartAudio. I have tried disabling it when the computer starts up but even then the problem still happens.

Hi,

Does it happen even using an external speaker? Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by uninstalling/reinstalling the sound card driver from Device Manager.
- Once you've uninstalled the sound card driver from Device Manager, reboot the laptop and it should reinstall the driver automatically.
- If it doesn't install, download and install the latest driver from Toshiba's Support site.
- Here's the link where you can download all the drivers.
- Also do install the Toshiba Audio Enhancement software that may also help.

Hopefully this will help. :)

I tried the steps before and of course again and yes it did this with external speakers though I only tested my headphones. I found a suggestion to factory reset. After backing up data I tried this and for the last couple of days everything seems fine. However I still don't have any idea what caused this.
