So I have a toshiba satellite for a couple years now. And about a year or two ago something must have happened to the battery that the laptop would only work when it was connected to the power cord. Never bothered to get it fixed I always used to when it was connected to the power and never had issues. Today my laptop was closed, I don't think it was off because I had it on sleep since last night. This morning I yanked the power cord out of the wall to plug in something else. When I came home and tried to plug it back in and turn it on it turns right back off. the only lights that are on is the power light and the battery light which is red like always. Even when I disconnect the power those two stay on. I tried holding the power button with and with out the battery and nothing works . I just want to know what happened to it? Was it my fault my yanking the cord out?

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Remove the battery and try to boot the laptop with just the AC adapter and see if it will boot up.
- Next is to try and reseat all the RAM's, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure that everything is seated properly.
- Do also test your AC adapter if it's supplying enough voltage to power and charge the laptop or try another AC adapter that has the same voltage.
- If all these will not work the problem would be the motherboard itself.
