How do I go about building a high-quality Home Theater?

Hello there, I've always bought hardware for gaming, but after going to the cinema and watching the new Star Wars movie I feel inspired to reproduce that experience at home. Sadly I know virtually nothing about home theater builds and thought the best starting point would be to ask you guys.

What sort of things do I need to build such a system that could replicate the quality of a theater?

Hello,

You can't replicate the quality of the theater you went to, that's impossible. You can create a really good home theater though, I'm guessing you want a projector, screen, speakers, receiver, player purchased seperately? A huge factor to consider is the room you're working in, the acoustics of your room should be your top priority before you even consider anything else. On the projector side, you want a room that can literally be as dark as when you turn off the lights, you can't even see your projector screen infront of you, even if it's white. Next are your room dimensions. There's too many variables that you didn't include in your OP.

All the best!

I'm not entirely sure. The budget isn't necessarily an issue. I could go $6,000 and I would like something exceptional, but I'm not quite willing to pay several thousand more for subtle improvements. It's a bit like paying twice as much money for the Titan X when the improvement over the far cheaper 980TI is only around 2%. I wish I could offer more detail, but this is a very new topic for me. I was blown away at the image quality and especially the sound at my local cinema and would like to recreate that quality at home to the best of my ability whilst also staying within the realm of possibility.

My apologies, I never considered any of those factors. As I said before this is a very new thing to me and I'm not joking about knowing virtually nothing about it. I just saw something pretty and now I want it. :p

How would I go about evaluating a room's acoustic state and potential?

I believe so, though I'm not familiar with any alternatives. What would you recommend, if I may ask?
