ello, im having a lot of concern over my laptop Lenovo y50 ..actually some days ago in total silence I heard very very very faint noises coming from the laptop.. Which were hardly audible . I want to know if some very very faint noises coming from the machinery are OK or not... Coz that was probably the first time I was their in complete silence with the lappy... And I would like to know whether machinery (hard drive I guess) produces so.e very very faint noises (hardly audible

There are very few totally silent systems.

If you have a fan, you'll hear noise, if you have a mechanical hard drive, you'll hear noise, if you listen carefully enough you will hear electric hum from the system components at times.

You were never around a computer before and heard what it sounds like?
Hi,

How long did you have that laptop with you? I would start by cleaning the inside of your laptop, remove all the dust that may stop that fans from spinning properly. Next is to identify where the sound really is coming from so you'll be able to identify which is really causing that sound. Mechanical sounds maybe coming from either the fans, DVD drive and the HDD so those 3 would be your main suspect and you'll just need to narrow it down by listening where its really coming from. :)

if its a ticking its most likely your HDD if its a high pitch squeak and there is something in the optical drive its most likely the optical drive. if it is a general squeak and coming from the bottom it could be a resistor or other wire thing.
