TV, HDMI Switch, and speakers

I have HDMI switch. I have my cable in HDMI port 1, Blueray/DVD in port 2, Apple TV in 3. The speakers are through the Blueray player. When I use port 3 it has the sound from the cable not the apple tv. Any help is much appreciated. I should have added that the Blueray uses component cables to the TV for sound. I expect that is my issue but I don't know how to resolve things.

Make and model numbers would help.
Connect the cable box and Apple TV to the HDMI switcher inputs.
Connect the switcher output to the BD home theater HDMI input.
Connect the BD home theater HDMI out to the TV.

Why do you have a separate cable for sound? HDMI carries both audio and video information.

If your speakers are hookup to BR player only, how are you getting sound from the other 2 sources?
