splitting sound with 2 soundcards

okay, so i have an usb headset, hyperx cloud II to be precise, with an external 7.1 soundcard. i was wondering if i can make music play out of my speakers and other sounds go through my headset and what i need to do to achieve that. it's very helpful when i'm gaming and someone else in my room wants to listen to music

windows does not like to do as you want and will fight you. the way windows prefers to work is to have one default device and output sound via that one device.

one thing you can try (and generally the best workaround) is to use virtual audio cable the program which allows you more control over input/output.
