I need a new gaming headset (minus the mic) for a few games like cs:go and stuff of that nature where you need to hear where an enemy is. My budget is $20-50 dollars.

I will be replacing my turtle beach z11's which are bugging out as of right now.

if your budget is stretchable, the hd518 would make a good choice.

the creative aurvana live is just above your limit and has good audio quality for the price. not sure how large soundstaging will be but likely sufficient enough.

perhaps takstar pro 80 (same headphone as in hyper x cloud headset) if cheap enough or the 2050.

another budget king is the superlux 668b

So are open headphones better than noise cancelling ones for gaming?

for clarification do not confuse the terms "noise cancelling" with "noise isolating" or "closed" headphones as they refer to two different hings.

noise isolating means to muffle noise such as wearing earmuffs. closed cans do this and its a passive effect.

noise cancelling is an active effect that uses electronics to listen to and then recreate opposite sound waves to external noise input thereby cancelling it out. while it somewhat works it also can result in audio that (to some) can sound incredibly distorted.

open vs closed for gaming? generally open are suggested for wider soundstage unless you have reasons to need/want closed. honestly you can use either if you had to.
