I have a SONY BRAVIA - (KDL-W42800A) , Philips Bluray Player (BDP-2385) , Pioneer AV receiver (HTP-072 (VSX 324-K receiver)).

I am trying to connect the following

1. TV
2. Blu Ray Player
3. Cable Set top Box (Satellite TV) -
4. AV receiver

I have made the following connections

1. AVR (HDMI IN) and Bluray player (HDMI OUT)
2. Set Top Box (HDMI OUT) to TV (HDMI normal port)
3. AVR (HDMI OUT) to TV (HDMI (ARC)

On activating Bravia sync , it recognizes both my DVD and AVR .

I am able to control both the devices from the TV remote like increasing the volume , play , stop etc. I have the correct settings in AVR ( HDMI AMP and ARC ON) as mentioned in the manual.

I am not able to hear sound when I play sound originating from TV (USB port in TV / Set top Box connected to TV)

edit : Could this be due to the fact that Blu Ray connected to the AVR instead of one of the TV HDMI port??.. Most of the articles on ARC mention a scenario where everything is connected to the TV and the AVR is used as a secondary option if at all you want to output TV sound thru the receiver..

Solution
Connect the BD player and set top box to the receiver HDMI inputs.
Connect the receiver HDMI out to the TV HDMI-ARC input.
If you can't get the ARC to work then connect the TV optical audio out to the receiver for audio from the USB or TV tuner.
