My cousin handed down an ASUS G750JX-DB71 laptop to me and it was working fine when I started using it. A couple of months later it crashed, so I had to install Windows 10 off a flash drive. I checked online and some people said that it overheats, the battery is dead, or the circuit board is damaged. I checked the temperature and it goes up to 194°F (The program said that my laptop can go up to 210°F), and my laptop still shuts down when the temperature is around 110°F (The laptop is on a hard flat surface). I tried using the laptop without the battery (With the charger plugged in), but it still crashed. My laptop can stay on for 10 minutes or it can stay on for up to 4 hours. I have no idea on what to do. Please help.

Laptop Specs:
Model: ASUS G750JX-DB71
Processor: Intel Core i7-4700HQ (3.4GHz)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M 3G GDDR5
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 (4x4GB Sticks)
Storage: 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD (SSD is boot drive)
Operating System: Windows 10 (64 bit)

It sounds like it's all heat related so here's a few tips. They sell little fan trays that sit below the laptop to pull some of the heat off, but they aren't super effective. You should also open the laptop if you feel comfortable with that and clean out any dust with a compressed air can. Pay attention to the vent areas to make sure these are especially cleared.
There could also be issues with the thermal grease/heatsinks on the CPU/GPU, but that gets into some pretty involved stuff.

It seems that the laptop is overheating.
The thermal compound that came with your laptop will only last around 2 - 3 years under heavy usage before it completely dries off or become ineffective to transfer heat from the CPU to the heatsink.

The problem with that is that there aren't many tutorials that go in depth enough for me to open it up, and I'm afraid if I open it up even further, I might damage my laptop. I can only open up the part that stores the hard drive, ssd and 2 ram sticks.

Here are two videos that should help. They are in French, but hopefully the video itself will be explanatory enough.

Awesome laptop for free, but the difficult and extensive disassembly procedures of the newer ASUS ROG laptops was the reason I decided to go with an MSI when replacing my last ASUS ROG laptop (G75).

It hasn't crashed ever since I took the RAM stick out.
