Ok I have been looking to get a laptop for work for a while now. I managed to find 4 laptops that will be going on sale and right now I am on the fence on which one to get.

I would like the ability to use the laptop at work for surfing the internet, watching movies, working on office programs, programming C/C++/Visual Basic.

I also want to install Linux and be able to dual boot Windows/Linux.

When not at work I would like to consider using the laptop for gaming if possible. The types of games I play are normally STEAM games such as cs:go, farcry 3, payday 2, sniper elite 3 or any first person shooter.

Out of the 4 laptops I really like are:

1) MSI GE62 and the ASUS GL552VW.

The MSI GE62 comes with 8GB of ram where as the GL552VW has 16GB.

However the build quality on the GL552VW is poor as it is entirely made of plastic and the lid, hinges and screen easily bend and flexes as shown here in this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TMFPFUVe34

Then as I was looking I found 2 other laptops that are on sale as door crashers which are:

1) MSI GP72 2QE-044US Leopard Pro
2) MSI GE Series GE72 2QD-405US Apache Pro Gaming Notebook

I have no clue if the Leopard Pro or the GE72 Apache Pro would be better choice in to get in terms of the value for the price and performance.

I am hoping someone with more experience in gaming laptops could help me come to an informed decision on which one I should choose.

Any help is most appreciated in advance.

Right now I am borrowing a laptop from a co-worker and its an ASUS that is equipped with a AMD C60 CPU.

It runs at 1.3 Ghz and its slow as molasses.

I agree with what you are saying that I could save money by going cheaper but I want something that will be solid and meet any future needs.

So I am hoping someone can make a suggestion on the 4 laptops I posted. I would like to consider buying one of them but not sure which one.

Don't let the 16GB of ram fool you, you will rarely use over 8 for any recent games and 16gb is overkill and more for processes like video editing & rendering. Go with the MSI 8GB with the better build quality, preferably the cheaper one since you are spending so much for a laptop.

If you really want a suggestion, if you're using it for "general use", I would go for something on the cheaper side, and maybe investing money into an SSD to make it run blazingly fast.

I currently have the MSI cq61 us, comes with 8GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 920M 2GB, 750GB Hard Drive (which I've replaced with an SSD), and a decent processor, fits all of my school needs and gaming needs, picked it up for $570 and got a $100 rebate in mail, spent about $70 on an SSD and replaced the HDD, and it runs like a boss now! But if you want 100% top of the line gaming performance, one of the other MSI choices would be better.
