Hello, this is my first post on here as I like to find out the solutions myself but I have been unsuccessful so far, ive got a motherboard with 6 analog outputs for surround sound through 3.5mm cables and it has also got an optical output my receiver only has a single aux 3.5mm input so i could only ever reproduce stereo sound that way but it does have an optical input and its dolby digital compatible, however on realtek hd audio i can only play outputs up to 2 channels and whenever I change to dolby interactive it doesnt play any sound although the speaker icon shows the green bar moving as if it was playing the sound, I understand there is a dolby live option which i dont have in my realtek program which might work. I suspect my receiver doesnt support dolby interactive but might support live either way i cant find out as the only option i found to get that was installing hacked realtek drivers and that didnt work either as i didnt get the option and i kept getting BSOD. I want to get this going as it seems a waste to have a surround sound system when i can only use stereo on it.

Sorry if there is already a thread on this but i couldnt find one.

Thank you

Alex

to get 5.1 over optical from a pc you will need either dolby digital live or dts-connect. without said support you will get 2.0 only.

if your receiver supports 5.1 over optical it should work. keep in mind that htib (home theater in a box) sets may or may not support 5.1 over optical. connectivity with cheap sets is often very poor. any true avr (audio video receiver) seperately purchased generally includes such functions unless it is very old.

do not use hacked drivers from a 3rd party source as they may be unsafe. you may want to scan your pc in depth for any malware.
