HI, I'm having trouble with my laptop. The audio plays fine though the inbuilt speakers, but whenever I try to plug in a audio devise into the headphone jack, instead of muting the internal speakers and playing through the headphone, It makes the speakers twice as loud. Even when at full volume it makes the inbuilt speakers alot louder. Louder than I thought the computer could go.

Im not sure what's causing this issue, but it's happend before, and went away after a couple of days. Just before it does it it makes some pinging and hissing sounds through the headphone jack. Not sure if it's related, but it seems to happen soon after Ive been watching movies on the tv via the computers hdmi.

I've tried restarting and updating drivers with no luck.

Thanks for help and advise.

Solution
Hi,

Please do start by uninstalling/reinstalling the sound card driver.
- Go to Device Manager then uninstall the sound card driver.
- Reboot your laptop once the driver has been uninstalled and it should reinstall automatically after the reboot.
- If it doesn't install you can still download and install the latest driver from the manufacturers site.
- After the install and if the headphone is plugged in but the sound is still coming out the built in speaker, set the default playback device. Right click on the speaker icon and select Playback Devices.
- Right click on the headphone listed and select Set Default.
- Click Apply and OK then test it again.

Regarding the sound coming out thru HDMI connection that's related to your graphics card so you'll need to uninstall/reinstall the graphics card driver or install the latest driver there is from the manufacturers site.
