Gateway M Series won't boot to password screen, just to a blank screen with blinking cursor

Hello there,
I've gotten a Gateway m Series laptop that was just collecting dust in my house and I used it perfectly until I accidentally used a 7Zip file and had "Use this for all files like this" then all my icons turned to 7Zip ones. By then it was obvious that I had to factory reset (I'd forgotten you can factory reset with the computer being on, too late for that now) but when I attempted it just to gateway logo then booted a blank screen with a blinking cursor and goes no further, I tried using the F8 but it does nothing, I know the PhoenixBios password. When I try boot sequence there's no HDD option just "DVD, Boot Main, and Boot To LAN."
Please provide any help you can.

Hi,

It seems like that the built in recovery partition has been corrupted already. The only way to solve the problem is to run a System Recovery disc. You can either order from Gateway a recovery disc so you could run and fix the issue.
